Margaret P. Nelson, 102, of Superior WI died peacefully Monday, Dec.14, 2009 in the Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 1, 1907 in Waukegan, IL and was a Superior resident since 1962. Prior to moving to Superior she had been a Duluth, MN resident for 21 years. On October 2, 1931 she married Knute Nelson in Waukegan and they spent 56 happy years together.
She was the longest living member of Faith United Methodist Church. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BG and had been a faithful volunteer at the former Superior Memorial Hospital in their Telecare program
Margaret was an accomplished artist and was well known for the note cards she created and gave as gifts to so many. She enjoyed her many years having lunch and playing bridge every week with friends and also enjoyed a good game of cards with her grandkids. She loved to entertain and could clean fish like a pro. She was the best grandma in the world, a friend to many, and had an uncommonly special relationship with her daughter-in-law Roberta. Her family has so many wonderful memories of cherished family times. She'll be missed very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Knute, in 1987; a son, Richard K. Nelson in 1989; a brother Harry Pierson and a sister Elsie Olson.
Margaret is survived by her daughter-in-law Roberta Nelson of Superior; three grandchildren, Richard E. (Amy) Nelson of Ladysmith, WI, Laurie Nelson Franks and Lynn (Dexter) Nelson all of Superior; and six great-grandchildren, Jamie Olson, Katie and Hannah Nelson, and Erik, Jonathan and Taylor Nelson.
Her memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 16th Street and Hughitt Ave. on Monday, December 21st at 2:00 with the Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour before the service.
If desired, memorials in Margaret's name may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
Margaret's family would like to thank Villa Marina for the love and care they gave her the last several years.
Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. and 19th Street is assisting the family with arrangements.
