Marilyn Edith Shaw, 82, a former resident of Superior, Wisconsin died August 1, 2011 in Rockville, Maryland.
She was born July 5, 1929 In Superior to Edith M. (Cannelin) and Thomas Ross Shaw, Sr. She attended McCaskill Elementary & Junior High School and graduated from Superior Central High School in 1947. She then attended UW-Superior and graduated from UW-Madison with BA and MA degrees.
Marilyn was an accomplished artist and photographer who had won many awards for her work. One of her scenic photographs was featured on the state of Maryland road maps. She taught art in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., Detroit and Highland Park, Mich. and in the Montgomery County school system in Maryland.
Marilyn traveled extensively and belonged to a travel club to accomplish her travel dreams.
She is survived by her sister, Beverly L. Sutherland of Superior; nephews, James R. (Sue) Sutherland, Steven (Danielle) Shaw, Gregory Shaw and Jeffrey (Marcie Beyersdorfer) Shaw; nieces, Della (Charles) Pleski and Debra (Jeffrey) Bloomquist and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Thomas Ross Shaw, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Joanne Metcalf Shaw; and a brother-in-law, James E. Sutherland.
Her memorial service will be held in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., on Sat., Sept. 24th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Will Mowchan, Pastor of Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Committal prayers will be held at Graceland Cemetery.
The family expresses their appreciation for the kindness and the excellent care shown Marilyn from both the staff of the Potomac Valley Nursing Center in Rockville and the hospice staff. A very special thank you is expressed to her friend and Guardian of Property, Donna Costello.
