Mark F. Dougherty, 70, of Superior, died Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his residence with staff and loved ones by his side.

He was born May 29, 1952, in Milwaukee, WI, son of James and Delores (LaBonte) Dougherty. Mark worked many years at the Challenge Center, in Superior. He was a very sweet man with a big heart.

Mark was a ward of the state. At 5 years old he lived at St. Joseph's Children's Home in Superior. Just 2 years later he was transferred to Northern Wisconsin Center where he would later revisit in June of 2004 for a reevaluation. In 1987 Mark went to live at a group home in Superior operated by the Challenge Center. After his return from NWC in October of 2004 Mark was placed at his permanent home McKenzie Manor where he spent the next 18 years receiving care.

Mark had enjoyed taking part of many activities including Special Olympics, going out to eat at local restaurants, ice cream dates, sporting events, parks, puzzles, etc. Mark was involved with the Challenge Centers Prevocational program.  He attended Life Skills then the Seniors Program for 5 years.

He is survived by his Challenge Center and McKenzie Manor families. McKenzie Manor would like to send a personal thank you to the hospice team for their care and support.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday, January 6, 2023, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior.
