Marlene Gem Anderson, 71, of Superior, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, surrounded by her family.
She was born February 10, 1943, in Superior, Wis., daughter of Alvin and Verna Gem (Southwick) Peltzer.
As a young lady working the lunch counter at Newberry's, Marlene met her husband to be, Ronald F. Anderson. Ron and Marlene were married November 30, 1963, in Superior.
Following her employment at Newberry's, she worked for Douglas County, Supertown South and American Family Insurance.
Marlene was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church and it's church choir and deacon board, Bethel Lutheran Church Women, Relay for Life, Red Hat Ladies, and the Sisterhood of the Faded Swimsuits. Some of her many interests included baking, flower gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading, music, Minnesota Vikings, pet dogs, various crafts and Duke basketball. Her cake baking talents were second to none and for many she was known as, "The Cake Lady". Yes, Marlene had many memberships and interests; however, her greatest love was her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ronald F. Anderson, May 3, 2013; and aunt, Marina Southwick, January 17, 2014.
Survivors include her son, Thomas (Beth) Anderson, Superior; daughters, Carolyn (Mickey) Brand, Superior, and Nancy Anderson, Buffalo, Minn.; grandchildren, Desirae, David and Joshua Brand; brothers, Lloyd Peltzer and Bob Mosca, both of Conifer, Colorado; and uncle, Charles Southwick, Superior.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5821 John Avenue, Superior. Reverend Gary Garnatz will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carol Hanson, Wendy Hickok, Mary Ann Katzmark, Evie Reinkell, Kathy Holton, and Joyce Landrum.
Following the service, everyone is invited downstairs to a luncheon in the fellowship hall.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hawthorne.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, Solvay Hospice House or the American Cancer Society.
