Marlene J. Logergren, 74, of Duluth died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, in St.
Luke's Hospital.
A longtime resident of Superior, she was the daughter of Claude and Lilian
(Beeman) Carruthers, born Dec. 29, 1936, in Minong, Wis.
Marlene was a musician, mother of eight, and worked from the age of 16. She
was a cook at various restaurants including the Androy and former Chef's
Restaurant in Superior for many years. After years of working for the Bethel
in Duluth as a cook, she was promoted to director of internal services, a
job she held for many years. After retiring from the Bethel, she went back
to work managing operations at the Garden House in Duluth. In addition to
her career, she performed as a singer and guitarist, launching her musical
career for a second time in her 50s after meeting her third husband, Raymond
Logergren. She performed with her husband and frequently sang and played
guitar with her son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Jennifer.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Her parents; three brothers; two sisters; her second husband, Karl Nelson;
third husband, Raymond Logergren; and sons Steven Thoen and Claude Nelson
preceded her in death.
She will be missed by her daughter, June (Bruce) Lorimor; and sons, Robert
(Stacy) Thoen, and Wayne (Barbie), Fred (Shelley), Karl (Jennifer) and Kris
Nelson. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Steven, Catherine, Karl,
Robert "Scooby," Bill, Karla, Matthew, Claude "CJ" Jr., Breanna, Demi,
Elizabeth and Ashley. Eight great-grandchildren; chosen "son," Claude
Thompson; longtime friend Ginny Lilo; ex-husband and friend, David Thoen;
and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, survive her also.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 with services at 10 a.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 28 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., Superior.
