Mary Y. Benson, 97, of Superior, Wis. died Sunday, September 25, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Superior.
Mary was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska on April 29, 1913, the daughter of Hattie (Vose) and Amos Young.
She had been a rural mail carrier for 30 years in Foxboro, Wis. She was also a cook and caretaker at the Foxboro School and a 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of the Rural Mail Carrier's Association and the Rosemaling Society.
Mary's door was always open. She enjoyed a cup of coffee and conversation with her friends. She also loved to dance, play cards, crochet and rosemaling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1987; her parents; a brother, Charles Young; and a sister, Ruth Danielson.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Bernice (Jack) Christiansen of Isle, Minn.; two sons, Robert (Susan) of Foxboro and Richard (Catherine) of Rosemont, Minn.; grandchildren, Karyl (Scott) Levang of Champlain, Minn., Karla (Bob) Sheehy of Big Lake, Minn., Keith (Helen) Christiansen of Foxboro, Kerri (Tim Holmberg) Christiansen of Zimmerman, Minn., Eric (Christy) Benson of Jacksonville, Fla., April Benson of Waukesha, Wis., Steven Benson of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Richard Benson of Savage, Minn., and Christine (Mark) Jennrich of Cottage Grove, Minn.; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave., Rev. Richard Blood will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will be in Summit Cemetery.
If desired, memorials in Mary's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Susan G. Komen For The Cure (for breast cancer research).
