Obituary

Mary Leah (Cary) Dodge, 85, of Superior, was lifted into Heaven on Sunday, May 08, 2016, from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN after a brief illness.

Mary Lee was born December 25, 1930 in Birchwood WI to Agnes (Miller) Cary and Gaylord Cary. She graduated from Superior East High School in 1949 and was married to Donald E. Dodge on October 30, 1952.

Mary Lee held various jobs in Superior and Duluth including being a lab Tech at the Duluth Clinic, a travel counselor at TARA, claims taker at the Superior Unemployment office and Outreach worker for Northwest Community Service, but her greatest work and what she loved the most had was being a wife and mother. After retiring, she volunteered for the Foster Grandparent Program, working at Cooper Elementary School for seven years. She loved working with the children and the teachers at Cooper.

Mary Lee was a sports nut, but no teams could top the Superior Spartans or the Green Bay Packers. She had a love for tennis, cooking and planning family gatherings, visiting and crafting with friends.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Don; her foster son, Joseph McLaughlin; two infant children, Maureen and Paul; and her brother, Gaylord (Bud) Cary.

Mary Lee is survived by her children, Leanne (Paul) Brandt, Carolyn, Reenie (Jay) Kinney, and Mike; her grandchildren, Shaun and Christopher Williams, Casey McKay, Kristi Bodendorfer, Amanda and Megan Moore, and William Kinney; great-grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Rylie, Abby and Aleah; her sister, Nancy (Bernard) Adee; her brother, Bill (Ruth) Cary; and the Joe McLaughlin family, Linda, Kevin and Shawn.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 12th at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St. in Superior. There will be a family graveside service held the following day at Greenwood Cemetery.
