Obituary

Mary Jean Dolsen, 98, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in the company of her husband Charles.

She was born in Superior on September 25, 1927, to Martin and Margaret Sauter. She spent most of her life in Superior before retiring to Amnicon Lake. After losing her mother at a young age, she spent part of her childhood with relatives.

While working at Twin Ports Dairy she met and eventually married Walter Erickson in 1948. Together they raised their two daughters Kathleen and Julie in South Superior, enjoying time away at their cabin on the Brule River.

Following Walters death in 1966, she married Charles Dolsen in 1968, spending almost 58 years together at their homes in South Superior and Amnicon Lake caring for and entertaining family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. They enjoyed bus tours, gardening, feeding the birds, and observing the wildlife around them.

Mary Jean was a lifelong member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church where she was an active parishioner and dedicated volunteer. She was known for her sewing and rug making skills and was a founding member of the Holy Assumption Quilters – a group that has gone on to donate hundreds of beautiful handmade quilts to organizations throughout the community. Once moving to Amnicon Lake, she and Charles committed themselves to their new community and to Tri-Lakes Civic Club. In 2021 they were honored as Grand Marshals of the Fourth of July parade.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Walter Erickson; her son-n-law Ronnie Perala and sisters Peggy Erbe and Nancy Sauter.

Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Charles; brother, Martin Sauter; daughters, Kathleen (Lonny) Lundberg and Julie Perala; by her grandchildren Mary, Jennifer, Michael, Erick, Matt and their spouses; also by her great grandchildren.
