Mary Lois Gullo, 96, of Superior, Wis. died Tues., July 1, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospice, Duluth, Minn.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minn. on January 19, 1918 to Anna E. (Nelson) and William J. Whitney. When Mary was 3 years old the family moved to Superior to make their home.
On Sept. 4, 1937 she and Sam P. Gullo were united in marriage and he preceded her in death 38 years later. After 38 more years passed, Mary joined him in heaven.
Mary had been a member of the former St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its Altar Society and she was currently a member of Cathedral Of Christ The King. Her other memberships included Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Superior 1190, R. S. V. P., the Tower Ave. Senior Citizen Center, and the East End Senior Citizen Center. She was a longtime volunteer at St. Francis Nursing Home.
She is lovingly remembered by her five girls, Dawn (Gaylord) Palm of Superior, Anna Roe of Altoona, Wis., Antoinette Neumeyer of Moose Lake, Minn., Alice (Kenneth) Vergauwen of Madison, S. D., and Mary (Tracy) Anderson of Bennett, Wis.; a sister, Betty Hill of Mesa, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. Mary will be dearly missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Anna and William; her husband, Sam; a daughter, Susan Washburn ; and a sister, Ollie Gustafson.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sat., July 5th in Cathedral Of Christ The King and continue until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Leon Flaherty as Celebrant. The Committal prayers will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
