Mary E. Heisel, 89, of Duluth and formerly of Superior, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Viewcrest Health Center, Duluth.
She was born August 20, 1922 in New London, WI, daughter of Franklin and Anna (Paterson) King.
Mary graduated from Marquette University, and worked as a social worker in Milwaukee, following her graduation.
Some of her memberships included St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Duluth Women's Medical Auxiliary, Duluth Family Services Board and her bridge club.
She enjoyed golfing, cooking, baking, upland bird hunting and spending time with her dogs; however, her greatest love was her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dr. John G. Heisel in 1996; son, David Heisel in 2002; infant daughter; son-in-law, William Wiesner in 2011; sister, Marney McCormick; 4 young brothers; and step-father, George Rupple.
Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Shepard, Superior, and Nancy Namaste, Duluth; sons, Paul (Debbie) Heisel, Apple Valley, MN, and James (Ellen) Heisel, Lakeville, MN; 12 grandchildren, Kathryn and William Heisel, Michael, David and Anna Shepard, John Paul (Alex), Jennifer and Mary Heisel, Sarah, Rebecca and John Heisel, and John Namaste; brothers, Robert (Mary Don) King, Duluth, Georgia, James King, Shawano, WI, and John (Roz) Rupple, Shawano, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Superior. Reverend Father James Tobolski will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
Active pallbearers will be David Shepard, John Paul Heisel, John Namaste, William Heisel, Katie Heisel and Anna Shepard. Honorary pallbearers will be David Heisel, Bill Wiesner, Ed Girzi, James Hutchinson, Bill Benson, Bob Trauba, Dr. Walter Gower, Michael J. Shepard, Mary Heisel, Sarah Heisel, Rebecca Heisel and John Heisel.
