Mary Joan
Lee
February 5, 1946 – October 17, 2021
Mary Joan Lee, 75, of Superior, died Sunday October 17, 2021, with close family by her side.
Mary Jo was born on Feb. 5, 1946 in Superior, the daughter of Adler and Anne (Chajdak) Vogt. She graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1964.
In 1969 she started her family and worked diligently to raise her children while going to college and working multiple jobs. In 1980, she earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing from the College of St. Scholastica.
Mary Jo worked for several years as a Public Health Nurse at the Douglas County Health Department and retired in 2008 from St. Mary's Hospital where she was a Home Health Care Supervisor.
In retirement, she loved spending time with her family, especially going out to dinner and picking up the tab. She also enjoyed lunches with the Birthday Club, listening to Roy Orbison, and going to the casino with her cousin Mary Ann, who was like a sister to her. In recent years her favorite night was Tuesday where she gathered with her lifelong friends for "buck burgers." She volunteered for many years at the beer tent for Special Olympics and also volunteered preparing taxes. She enjoyed going to Packers games with her childhood best friend, Gloria. Most important to "Grandma Jo" was spending time with her children and grandchildren. As she said, "Family Is Where It's At".
After being divorced and then widowed in 2001, she reconnected with an old high school classmate. Mary Jo and Roy spent many happy years together before Roy passed in 2015.
Mary Jo was loving, generous, fun, and kind and will be terribly missed by everyone that knew her.
Mary Jo joins her brother Robert "Bob" Vogt who passed just hours before her. She was also preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert E. Lee III; very special friend, Roy Haasis; and special cousin, Mary Ann Archambault.
Mary Jo is survived by her children, Sue (Rich) Powell of Two Harbors, Brigitte (Dave Rampier) Klejeski of Lake Nebagamon, Brady (Donna Voge) Klejeski of Hermantown, Michelle (Tony) Roffers of Solon Springs, Karissa Lee of Superior; Robert E. Lee IV of Superior; grandchildren, Felix and Harper Powell, Jessi Klejeski, Xavier Klejeski, and Marlee and Everlee Roffers; and many extended family.
These words can't fully express who our mom was and what she meant to those who knew her.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Christ the King Church, 1111 Belknap St., with Rev. Fr. Joji Reddy Boyapati as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Douglas County Humane Society.
