Mary Ann Johnson, 80, lifelong resident of Superior, died Tuesday March 21, 2023, at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Mary Ann was born in Superior on May 22, 1942, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Pahula) Johnson. She married Melvin Johnson and they celebrated 58 years of marriage until his death on Aug. 21, 2022.

She had worked for many years as a waitress at the Belknap Restaurant and later at Surf and Sands Nursing home in Duluth.

Mary Ann enjoyed crocheting and going to the casino with Melvin. She loved being around children and absolutely loved her time volunteering as a foster grandparent at Cooper Elementary School for 7 years. She also enjoyed talking and spending time with her husband and hosting family parties at their cabin in Brule. Most important to her was her family, especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Laura Miller) Johnson of White Bear Lake, MN; daughter, Cynthia (Randy) Baker of New Enterprise, PA; grandchildren, Paige (Will) Boone, Justin Baker, Jared (Alayna Mellott) Baker, and Jordyn Soderholm; and great-grandchildren, Emerie, Henry, and Ella.

A private family graveside will be held at Ever-Rest Cemetery in Brule, WI.
