Mary Leigh Jones, 78, of Superior, died Monday, May 27, 2013 in Hawthorne Township, Wisconsin.

She was born January 23, 1935 in Portsmouth, VA, daughter of Boyston and Marion (Gaskins) Johnson.

Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, puzzle solving, flower gardening, cooking, feeding and watching the birds and deer; however, her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post # 10252 and the American Legion Post # 29, both of Anchorage, Alaska.

Preceding her in death were her parents; granddaughter, Kimberly Burbul; and brothers, Paul and Boyston, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph S. Jones; daughters, Vickie (Jay) Borchardt, Faribault, MN, Marian (Tim) Burbul, Superior, and Susan (Ray) Muetz, Wasilla, AK; sons, Franklin A. Jones, Superior, and Joseph P. Jones, Cloquet, MN; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Marvin Johnson, Norfolk, VA, and James (Barbara) Johnson, Chesapeake, VA; sisters, Patricia (William) Richmond, Chesapeake, VA, and Betty Joyce Rhodes, Portsmouth, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Parkview Cemetery, Hawthorne, with Chaplain Gary Meller officiating.

Following the service, everyone is invited to the Hawthorne Town Hall for a luncheon and time to share memories.

Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
