Mary Jean Nicholsen, 62 of Superior, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born on December 11, 1960, in Grand Forks, ND to Betty (Tessman) and Earl Spicer.

Mary married Keith Nicholsen April 19, 2019, in Fosston, MN.

She has been working towards starting Thee Lighthouse and Upper Room Ministry, which ministers to the homeless and helps people to earn their GED.  Mary was passionate about educating people and helping them to create independence.

She was a homemaker and a pastor the majority of her life.  Mary enjoyed fishing with her family whenever she had the chance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her foster sisters, Mary Joan Compeau and Beth Anderson.

Survivors include her husband, Keith Nicholsen; her daughter, Julianna "Julie Jo" Hayes; her grandchildren, Frank, Joey, Dom, Han, Q, and Andy; her sister, Amy Luella; brothers, Chuck Spicer, Todd Spicer, and Kent Spicer; her stepdaughters, Anita Stonehouse and Katie Atkinson and six step grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 pm with a 6:00 pm Service on Sunday, March 26, 2023, in the Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19 ^th Street, Superior.  Pastor John Talcott as officiant.
