Mary Frances Paquette
Mary passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at age 89. She was born to Emil and Jenny Vucovich in Superior on September 7th, 1925. She graduated from Superior Central High School and the Duluth Business College.
She married the love of her life, Francis J. Paquette, in1946. She was a wonderful mother to her 5 children: Francis "Packy", Mary "Lulu" (Wayne Swanson), Michael (Nina Staupe), Susan (William Bombich) and Patrick (Colleen Christman). She will be missed by 10 grandchildren: Jesse (Ida), Peter (Kerry) and Thomas (Young Hyun) Paquette, Matt and Katie Bombich, Alex and Hanna Paquette, James (Virginia), Jon and Jennifer Swanson and by 4 great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Matt, Wyatt and Levi Swanson; sister, Laraine Matushak; brother, E. Daniel (Jean) Vucovich; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Francis, son Packy, brother George and his wife Charlotte, her sister Annie, brother-in-law Ray Matushak, niece Mary Kay Sauter, best friend Betty Sutherland and many family members from the Paquette family side.
Mary worked for the Superior Evening Telegram, Tri-State Fair Association and First National Bank (later M&I). She was an active member of Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, St. Anthony's Church, Lake Nebagamon, Catholic Daughters, PEO Chapter BG/AD, SAREA, Superior Elks #403, Jaycettes and Elkettes Tap Dancing Troupe. She volunteered for Douglas County Historical Society, Special Olympics, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, her church and many bake sales. She enjoyed quilting, modeling in style shows, reading, baking cookies for everyone, golf, bridge, and gardening. She was an avid sports fan, and attended all activities of her children and grandchildren. She loved time at her lake home with family and friends.
Her life will be celebrated in a Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior on Thursday, October 23 at noon. Visitations will be held at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St. in Superior on Wednesday, October 22 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and at Cathedral one hour before the service.
Her wishes were that memorials be made to Douglas County Special Olympics or St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary.
