Obituary

Mary K. Quam, 70, of Superior, died Friday, September 17, 2010 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.

She was born January 13, 1940 in Superior, daughter of Robert and Delia (Hunker) McGrew.

Mary was a life member of Concordia Lutheran Church, a member of the VFW Drum and Bugle Corps and the United Commercial Travelers.

For many years, Mary was an avid bowler.

Her work history included over 30 years at the Douglas County Courthouse. She worked for the Department of Human Services and most recently, Veteran Services. Mary also worked as a school crossing guard.

Preceding her in death were her husband, William E. Quam in 2007; parents; and brother, Emmett McGrew.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Michael) Johnson, South Range, and Brenda (Michael) Sullivan, Newport News, VA; son William E. (Kim Frink) Quam, Jr., Superior; grandchildren, Jessica (Maciej) Justat, St. Paul, MN, William E. (Alisha) Quam III, Superior, Kayla Sullivan, Newport News, VA, Turae Sullivan Newport News, VA, and Zachary Quam, Superior; great-grandchildren, Erick and Evan Quam; sisters, Diane Lieble and Barbara Lucas, both of Superior; brothers, James McGrew, Roscoe, IL, and Dennis McGrew, Grafton, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Superior.

Pallbearers will be William Quam III, James Quam, Jr., Pat McGrew, Robert Tyson, Ron Tyson and Andy Schnepper.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.

Following the committal service, everyone is invited back to the church for a luncheon.
