Maryann E.
Katzmark
September 15, 1941 – December 15, 2025
MaryAnn E. Katzmark, 84, a lifetime resident of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Beehive Assisted Living in Duluth, Minnesota. She now dwells in the house of the Lord forever.
MaryAnn was born on September 15, 1941, in Bemidji, Minnesota. She was employed as a secretary for Zenith Steel Company, Twin Ports Bible and Book, and several other businesses over the years. While she worked outside the home at times, MaryAnn was primarily a devoted homemaker who lovingly cared for her family.
Volunteerism was especially important to MaryAnn and became one of her greatest passions. A longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church, she began her lifelong commitment to serving others through her church. MaryAnn spent countless hours volunteering with numerous organizations, including Bethel Lutheran Church, Essentia Health Coffee Nook, Maranatha Academy as a tutor, the Salvation Army, the Food Shelf, Habitat for Humanity, the ReStore, Northland Alternative School, and the Superior Public Library, among many others.
MaryAnn held a special place in her heart for the Superior Fire Department, where her husband, Steve Katzmark, was employed for 30 years. She was a strong advocate for the fire department and the city of Superior. She actively lobbied for improved working conditions for the firefighters and the community of Superior. In recognition of her tireless dedication and service, the Superior Fire Department established an annual award in her honor, the MaryAnn Katzmark Civilian/Community Award, which is presented to recognize outstanding contributions by a community member.
MaryAnn was preceded in death by her parents and her two husbands, Kermit Mattson and Steve Katzmark.
She is survived by her sons, Tim (Tommi) Mattson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Paul (Susie) Mattson of Poplar, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Emily (Robert) Miller, Elise (Seth Sutherland) Mattson, Frances Mattson, and Kermyn Mattson; her great-grandchildren, Emmett, Hank, Grace, Everly, Sylvia, and Mabel Miller; her sister, Deborah (Dennis) Stidham; her brother, Richard (Carol) Seikkula; along with numerous extended family members and many dear friends.
Memorials may be directed in MaryAnn's name to CASDA, 318 21st Avenue East, Superior, WI 54880, or the Humane Society of Douglas County, 138 Moccasin Mike Road, Superior, WI 54880.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Essentia Hospice and the staff at the Beehive for their exceptional care and compassion. We would also like to give a special thank you to Howie and the entire Superior Fire Department.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. A celebration of MaryAnn's life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5821 John Avenue, Superior, Wisconsin, with Pastor Darrell Kyle officiating. MaryAnn's remains will be placed to rest in a niche at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date, in a private ceremony.
