Melvin H. Krause, 80, of Superior, died peacefully Thursday January 16, 2020 at his residence.
Melvin was born in Marshfield, WI on Nov. 21, 1939 the son of Myrtle and Harold Krause. He graduated from Stevens Point High School at the age of 15, with the class of 1955. Mel went on to earn an Associates Degree in Structural Engineering from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, graduating in 1963
He served his country in the Marines, 11 th Brigade, 3 rd Marine Division. He was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 1 st Class.
Mel built numerous quality homes, garages, and cabins in the area as Beaver Builders and Krause Construction.
Mel was an A #1 workaholic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He also enjoyed cooking and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Sperl formerly of Hillsboro, ND; and sisters, Sharon (Gary) Morse formerly of Ladysmith, WI, and Shirley (David) Galeazzi formerly of Norway, MI.
Mel is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda (Tungren); children, April (David) Tomberlin of Webster, WI Anne Isker of Wilson, WI, Marvin Krause of Orlando, FL, and Linda Moder-Pauna of Duluth; step daughters, Ann (Jerry) Goodiel of Superior, Debbie Mohr of Superior, and Hope (Jason Hubbard) Tungren of Superior; brothers, Darrell (Maureen) Krause of Stratford, WI, Roger (Teresa) Krause of Corpus Christi, TX, and Herman Krause of Superior; sisters, Sandra Catlin of Marshfield, WI and Susan (Dennis) Dupree of Pittsville, WI; half-sister, Bonnie Morgan, Panama City, Fl; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27 from 3:00 p.m. until the 5:00 p.m. memorial service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St. Rev. Mark Brookmole will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Park Hill Cemetery, Duluth.
