Meri Lee “Missy” Matonich, 46, passed away in her home on Friday, July 17, 2026. Missy was born August 16, 1979, in Hibbing, MN to Barbara (Hansen) and James Matonich.

She was a 1998 graduate of Chisholm High School and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Superior and earned her bachelor’s degree in art therapy.

Missy was employed as a job coach with Choice Unlimited and then she worked as a Patient Care Assistant in a group home with the Challenge Center. 

Missy met her longtime partner Jason Moberg on a punk dating site called Punk Connection. They celebrated their 20th anniversary on May 5th of this year. 

Missy was a very avid artist and enjoyed doing arts and crafts nights about 2-3 days a week. She enjoyed collecting Hello Kitty and Winnie the Pooh. She also always picked up a new stuffed animal on every vacation they took. 

Missy developed a love of classic cars with her dad and one of her most cherished memories was rebuilding a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, with her dad. Her biggest passion was spending time with friends and family. Missy was a very kind and compassionate person who always looked for the best in everyone. 

Missy was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her life partner, Jason Moberg; her brother, Daniel (Sarah Robinson) Matonich and his children, Mia and Lillian; Carol Moberg, Rodney Moberg, Jr. and Jeremy (Samantha) Moberg, and their children, Olivia and Roman. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. in Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N. 34th St., Superior, WI, with Gary Banker officiating.
