Michael W. Hietala, 71, longtime resident of Duluth, Sturgeon Lake, and currently of Superior, died Tuesday July 9, 2024, at Dove Health Care in Superior.

Michael was born in Duluth on Jan. 13, 1953, the son of Wilbert and Charlotte (Asbury) Hietala.

Mike was an auto mechanic and had worked for Harbor Garage in Superior and other local auto repair shops.

He enjoyed classic cars, especially classic Chevrolets. He loved his miniature pinchers and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Craig Hietala, Walter Hietala, Doreen Traiforos, Jenna Neumann, Kathy Hietala, and Barb Singh.

Mike is survived by his sons, Michael D. Hietala of Opp, Alabama, and Josh (Ashton) Hietala of Esko; grandchildren, Hayes, Jeremy, Tucker, Penelope, and Parker; siblings, Duke (Clarice) Hietala of Duluth, Jeff (Sun) Hietala of Florida, Janice Vlachakis of Florida, and Wilbert Hietala of Carlton; the mother of his children, Katie Hietala; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday July 18th from 2:00 until the 3:00 p.m. service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St. Superior, with Pastor Andrew Ward as officiant.
