Michael (Mike) John Statema, 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on October 31, 2023, with his loving wife, Donna Statema, by his side. He was born on July 13, 1965, in Grand Rapids, MN.
Mike and Donna began their journey of love and commitment on September 18, 1987, when they were married in Superior, WI. Their enduring bond was a testament to the strength of their love.
During his youth, Mike found his passion in kitchens, honing his culinary skills. He later transitioned into a carpentry career, dedicating over 30 years to crafting and building. His skills as a carpenter were evident in his meticulous work and attention to detail. For the last 15 years, he worked with Soumis Construction where he grew a tight bond with his respected coworkers.
Mike had a deep passion for the works of Stephen King, a fervent love for the Minnesota Vikings, and an undeniable appreciation for hair metal. He was a true Northern Minnesota man who cherished the great outdoors. Mike also shared his musical talents as a drummer for several years. His talent led to an extraordinary opportunity when he played with the band "Extreme." However, his heart belonged to the band "Queensryche," which held a special place in his soul.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vern Statema and Carole Schwaerzler, as well as his grandparents, Herman and Esther Statema and Raymond and Frances Pertlicek.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Statema, and his cherished daughters, Tiffany Statema and Kahla (Tyler) Peters-Bury. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Mady Statema, David Statema-White, and Sylvie Peters-Bury.
Mike's memory will forever be cherished by his sisters, Kathe (Steve) Yagoda and Beth Kelly, and his brother Eric Rajala. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Erinn, Abby (Shawn), Lunden (Adam), Logan (Nicole), Allyson (Jake), and Lindsey. His cousins, Holly, Robbie, and Heidi, brother-in-law Steve Kelly, his dear friend Sam Lecox, as well as Dad Tom, will also hold his memory dear.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on November 18th at 12:00 PM at Downs Funeral Home in Superior, WI, where family and friends will come together to honor his memory and share their stories.
