Michael John Scharte, 64, of Superior, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, surrounded by his family at his residence.

He was born November 21, 1953, in Superior, son of Arthur and Ruth (Melin) Scharte.

On May 17, 1980, Michael J. Scharte and Lynn A. Tomczak were united in marriage at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior.

For over 42 years, Mike worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad - then BNSF Railway, retiring in 2013. His railroad career started in Superior, after he earned his welding degree from WITC-Superior. The railroad moved him to Wyoming in 1993, then to Forest Lake, MN in 1996, and back to Superior in 2002. He was a member of the Superior Elks Club, and many motorcycle and snowmobile clubs.

Mike lived a life full of many interests and hobbies; which led him to develop many lifelong friendships.  Some of his passions, of which The Chicago Blackhawks and The New York Yankees may have topped the list; included motorcycles.  His dad helped him purchase his first "Harley" at the age of 14, which was followed by many more.  His many hobbies and interests always revolved around his family and friends.  He carried on many traditions including snowmobile trips, Brainerd Racing, and deer hunting.   His life outside of work was focused on his family.  He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, sons, family, and friends.

His father, Arthur, and brother, Tom, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn; sons, Patrick (Nicole) Scharte and John Scharte, both of Superior; grandsons, Miles, Bryce and Camden Scharte; mother, Ruth Scharte; sister, Nancy (Scott) Misfeldt, Kohler, WI; brothers, Tim (Kerry) Scharte, Chris (Tina) Scharte and Jeffrey (Erin) Scharte, all of Superior; several nieces and nephews; and numerous lifelong friends.

Visitation will be from 10 until the noon service, Friday, November 9, 2018, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19 ^th Street, Superior.
