Michael F. Stranko, 88, of Superior, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at New Perspective in Superior, WI.
Michael was born on November 1, 1937, in Superior, WI, to Mary (Zowin) and Joseph Stranko.
He graduated from high school and went on to attend Stout State College and vocational school. He was also a member of the Air National Guard.
Mike pursued a career as a firefighter with the Superior Fire Department. On December 1, 1964, he was appointed as a pipeman to Engine #1. He was promoted to driver on January 23, 1977, and to captain on June 1, 1985. He retired from the Superior Fire Department on January 10, 1993.
Mike was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a member of Superior Firefighters Local 74 of the International Association of Fire Fighters. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, running, and visiting the casino on occasion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James “Jimmy” Stranko; his sister-in-law, Barbara J. Stranko; his best friend, Dan “Sam” Conway; and his beloved beagle, Tracy.
Mike is survived by his nephew, David (Barbara N.) Stranko; his nieces, Nancy (Kirk) Parks and Laurie (Jason) Johnson; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Leslie Heinecke, Christopher Olson, Kevin (Amanda) Stranko, Jessica Olson, and Shauna Kasper; and his great-great-nieces and great-great-nephew, Arianna Kasper, Natalia Stranko, Maverick Peterson, Rebecca Stranko, and Emily Stranko.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4th St., Superior, WI, with the Very Rev. Fr. James Tobolski officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Superior, WI.
