Mildred A. 'Mickey' Ward, 97, lifelong resident of Superior, died Friday, August 26, 2016 at Harmony House.

Mildred was born in Superior on Aug. 28, 1918 the daughter of Jay and Iva Seyler.

Mickey graduated from Central high School and then attended the Superior Teachers College, which is now UW-Superior, and the Bartley Business School.  She worked as a stenographer and bookkeeper in Duluth and Superior.

She married John H. Ward on Jan. 10, 1948 and they celebrated 23 years of marriage until his death in 1971.

Mickey was a lifetime member of the former Trinity Methodist Church where she was involved as a Sunday School Teacher and sang in the Junior and Senior Choirs. She was also a member of the Central Garden Club, Friends of the Library and Alpha Kappa Alumni. She enjoyed reading, bird watching and gardening. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Roy, Jay, and Harriet Seyler, Ruth Dick and Margaret Turoski.

Mickey is survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria Seyler; nieces and nephews, Joan Carlson, Ken (Faye) Wasco, Nancy (Tim) Leland, David (Sandra) Seyler, Doug (Lynn) Seyler, Mark (Carmen) Seyler and Lareine Mihelich; great-niece and caregiver, Debbie (Ken) Lisdahl; and many other great-nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be on Wed. Aug. 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19 ^th St. and Ogden Ave. Rev. Joel Certa-Werner of Faith United Methodist Church, will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
