Mildred Louise Olson, 96, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mildred was born June 12, 1915, at Stony Brook in Crow Wing County, Minnesota to Fredrick and Anna Wermter. She moved to Douglas County, WI in 1933 marrying Kenneth Olson, September 18, 1935. In addition to raising five sons and five daughters, Mildred assisted her husband in his land surveying practice. The couple worked extensively throughout northern Wisconsin. Mildred was an avid reader, excellent seamstress, gardener and an extraordinary cook and baker.
Mildred was a faithful member of Concordia Lutheran Church teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She served her community as a 4-H Club leader and was active in University Extension Homemakers.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth Olson; her parents; brothers Alfred, Kurt, Herbert, and Howard Wermter; and sisters Ethel Levings and Geraldine Sullivan.
She is survived by her sons Harold (Diane) Olson, Gerald (Lillian) Olson, Mark (Beth) Olson, Michael (Joyce) Olson, and Miles Olson all of South Range, WI and daughters Karen (Russell) Olson, Hoyt Lakes, MN, Ellen Lappalainen, Hampden, MA, Linda (James) Bender, Cleveland, ND, Mary Olson, Ham Lake, MN, and Janet (James) Johnson, South Range, WI; her sister Marlene (Frank) Pollock, South Range, WI; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1708 John Avenue, Superior. Reverend Charles Plaster will officiate.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Superior.
