Oliver O. "Ollie" Laurila, 86, of Superior, died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Essentia Health, Duluth.
He was born February 13, 1924 in Superior, son of Axel and Ida (Aho) Laurila.
He graduated from the former Superior East High School and the University of Kansas (Milling School), Manhattan, Kansas.
His military service included the U.S. Army Air Corps as a mechanic, gunner and pilot, testing the A-26 light bomber used during the last months of WWII. He also played the trumpet and frugal horn in the Air Corps band.
On April 4, 1946, Oliver O. Laurila and Dorothy M. Kottman were united in marriage.
Ollie was employed by Peavey/Con Agra until his retirement in 1982, after 36 years of service.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Superior.
Preceding him in death were his parents and step-father, Henry Juno.
Survivors include his wife of over 64 years, Dorothy; daughter Katherine "Kathy" Geljack, Bristol, Ind.; two grandchildren, Kristine Wilder and Kenneth Geljack, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Geljack and Kenneth Geljack III; sister, Florence Gitzen, Woodbridge, VA; sister-in-law, Evelyn (William) Bergquist, Superior; nephew, Steve (Kathy) Lund; nieces, Lynn (Bill) Merritt and Lori (Tom) Germaine; and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and other loved ones.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Superior, with Pastor Patrick Ziems officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the church, following the committal prayers. Everyone is then invited to a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.
Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, Essentia Health Heart Center-Duluth, or Essentia Health Superior Hospital Auxiliary.
