Obituary

Oliver A. Rivard, 100, of Superior, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior.

He was born in Superior on December 7, 1916, the son of August and Julia Rivard.

Oliver served honorably in the Army during World War II with the 495 th Anti-Aircraft Battalion.  He participated in the D-Day Invasion and Belgium Bulge.  He spent 2 ½ years at the CCC Camp in Loretta, WI.

He was employed as a locomotive engineer for 38 years on the Great Northern Rail Road and Burlington Northern Rail Road.

Oliver enjoyed hunting and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nina Rivard; parents, August and Julia Rivard; daughter, Carol Gallik; grandson, Matthew Rivard; brothers, Bernard Rivard, and Raymond Rivard; and sister, Agnes Gallagher.

Oliver is survived by his sons, Robert (Kathleen) Rivard, Jack (Naudean) Oesterreich, and George Oesterreich, Jr.; son-in-law, Bill Gallik; granddaughters, Nissa (Jay) Rivard, Rachel (Kevin) Rivard, and Mary (Todd) Balcer; brothers, Robert (Darlene) Rivard, John Rivard, and Andrew Rivard; sisters, Jean (Donald) Netzel, and Mary Waltonberg; and many nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Oliver's family would like to thank the staff at Villa Marina for their wonderful care and help with Oliver's 100 th birthday party.
