Patricia "Patty" (Smith) Liebaert passed away peacefully from a brief illness surrounded by family and friends September 3, 2026.
Patty was born April 7, 1955, to Granville and Jane (Cone) Smith. Patty was the middle of 6 sisters.
Patty met Roger at the Superior race track when they were teenagers. They were married on July 12, 1974, in Superior Wisconsin. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary two years ago with a big party. Patty and Roger had two daughters, Erin and Sara.
Patty was the light in all of the dark. She loved fiercely with every piece of her heart. If she loved you, her home was yours anytime you needed it. Patty took in all sorts of strays as she would call them. Many of her sisters, nieces, nephews and friends stayed at Patty's home. Patty was the kindest soul and knew someone everywhere she went. She often wanted to touch the belly of Pregnant women, without asking first.
Patty enjoyed spending time with her two amazing grandchildren, going to their sporting events, garage and estate sales with her sisters, spending time at the cabin with her family, and being around the people she loved.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Granville and Jane; sister, Nancy Van Landschoot; niece, Kristen Johnson; in-laws, Ray and Leone Liebaert; brothers-in-law, Jim and Rick Liebaert; nephew, Chad Liebaert; great nephew, Michael Brown; and Addison Liebaert.
Patty is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roger; two daughters, Erin Liebaert and Sara Liebaert, daughter in-law, Jen; grandchildren, Will (Kaelyn) Lampton and Emma (Caleb) Lampton; sisters, Bonnie (Bill) McCreary, Elizabeth Martinson, Mary (Mike) Smith-Johnson, Anne (Dennis) Smith-Flaherty; brothers-in-law, Ronald and Steven (Judy) Liebaert; sisters-in-law, Paulette Gondek, Rae-Ann (Gary) Trombley, Stacy Liebaert, and Judy Bard; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, and her “Best Adopted Sisters.”
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2316 E 4th St, Superior, WI, with Very Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.
The family would like to express immense gratitude to the nursing and CNAs at Bayshore Rehab Center and the Doctors, Nurses, CNAs, and Wound Care Nurses at Essentia Health St. Mary's Duluth
