Paul L. Williams, Jr., 88, of Superior, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at New Perspective Assisted Living - Betty's Harbor.

He was born in Harrisonburg, VA, on January 2, 1931, the son of Paul, Sr. and Beulah Williams.

Paul married Mabel Downer on June 29, 1961 in Roscoe, SD.

Upon college graduation from Maryland, he began his career as a Mechanical Engineer at Philco. He went on to become a math teacher at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, where he met Mabel.  After furthering his education at Nebraska, he taught at UW-Superior for 29 years and earned a PhD from Iowa State during his tenure. Following his retirement, Paul and Mabel continued to educate for 10 years by becoming volunteers at private schools in Mississippi, North Carolina, Alaska, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Paul was a member of United Presbyterian Church.  He enjoyed riding his bike, solving Sudoku puzzles and cryptograms, reading, and traveling with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Williams.

Paul is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mabel; children, Mary Williams of Superior and Laura Williams of Gaithersburg, MD; brothers, John (Barbara) Williams and Ed (Vonnie) Williams; sister, Nancy Rouzer; and nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be on Wednesday, February 27, from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service at United Presbyterian Church, 229 N 28th Street. Pastor Charlotte Frantz will officiate.

Burial will be in South Dakota at a later date.
