Pearl L. (Holmes) Bossard, 88, of South Range, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at her residence.
She was born April 1, 1922 in Superior, and lived most of her life in the Superior area. For the last 44 years she lived at her special place on the river watching Mother Nature at her best.
Pearl was a very hard-working and conscientious lady. She worked many jobs in her lifetime. During the war years she worked as a welder on the ships with many other ladies. She was a very good cook and sewed most of her clothes in her younger days. Pearl continued to work her little garden and would then can some of the vegetables in the fall. In her last years she crocheted slippers and rugs.
Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Gladys (Dahl) Holmes; husband, Sam Bossard in 2001; son-in-law, Clinton Ross in 2008; great-grandson, Jerryd Benton in 2007; and brothers, Clarence, Marvin, Maynard, Richard and Robert Holmes.
Survivors include her daughter, Marie Ross, South Range; grandchildren, Quinton (Jan) Ross, Janesville, WI, Valerie (Ken) Benton, Mason, WI, and Melody (Tom) Ostrander, Superior; great-grandchildren, Adam (Korey) Ross, Duluth, Nichole Ross, Superior, Amanda Benton, Superior, and Shanda Benton and Ross Benton, both of Mason, WI; several nieces and nephews throughout the area; special friends, Mary and Pat; ladies of S & B, Linda, Liz, JanJan, Jan, Diane and Wendy; and Buffy, her faithful poodle that was always at her side.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Oakland Town Hall, with Arvid Stromquist officiating. The celebration will conclude with a luncheon, and the family invites everyone to stay.
Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
