PFC William Daniel Ewing, 22, of Superior, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 26, 2011 at his residence in Vista, California.
Bill was born in Superior on Dec. 16, 1988 the son of Kathryn (Gonia) and Michael Ewing.
He graduated from Superior High School in 2007 where he played football, ran track and took part in power lifting.
Bill joined the Marine Corps in 2009 serving a tour in Afghanistan from March to October 2010 and was currently in the LS Platoon, H&S Company, CLB-1, CLR-17, 1st MLG, Camp Pendleton, CA.
He loved everything about the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his dad and brother. He was an avid Boy Scout and camp counselor at Camp Phillips in Haugen, Wis. and was a member of the Superior Shooting team at UWS.
He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and always having time for a good joke.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Nelson Gonia; paternal grandparents, William V. (Tillie) Ewing and Dorothy L. Nelson.
Bill is survived by his parents, Michael and Kathryn; sisters, Jennifer (Melissa Jaglowski) Ewing of Foxboro, Lynette Ewing of Foxboro; brother, Anthony Ewing of Superior; maternal grandmother, MaryJane (Gerald) Deering of Rochester, Minn.; a niece Gracie Jonas; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his brothers and sisters of the Marine Corps.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 7 from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Christ the King with Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci as celebrant. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the United States Marine Corps.
