Phyllis M. Banks, 82, a lifelong resident of Superior, Wis. died Mon., Jan. 6, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minn.
Phyllis was born Jan. 1, 1932 in Superior to Olive (Simon) and Murrell Lundgren.
She had been a telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell for several years, and had owned and operated the Pine Crest Lodge in Iron River, Wis. for many years. She also was a chef and caterer at the Elks Lodge and Barkers Island Inn for many years.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Cheri (Terry) Banks-Olson and Larry (Kelly) Banks all of Superior; her grandchildren, Amanda Banks, Jacob Laakso, Zachary Banks, Dallas Banks, Vincent Banks, Trey Banks, Shanna Smith and Rebecca Olson; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Karen (Roy) Thomas of Monroe, Wis.; brothers, Ken (Bev) Lundgren of Superior and Larry (Dorothy) Lundgren of Barron, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Julie Ann Banks; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joan Lundgren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Jan. 11, at 1:30 p.m. in the Downs Funeral Home Chapel, corner of 19th St. & Ogden Ave., with Rev. Fr. Leon Flaherty and Pastor Joel Certa-Werner co-officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be served following the ceremony, location to be announced.
