Obituary

Randey Rich Jr., 49, of Superior, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Randey was born in Duluth on July 3, 1975, to Randey Rich, Sr., and Joan Peters.

Being a Navy brat, Randey moved around quite a bit as a kid, living at different naval bases across the country, but whenever his father was stationed outside the U.S., Randey, his mother, and sister would always come back to their home, Superior.  He attended Cooper Elementary, East Junior High, and graduated from Superior Senior High School, class of 1994. He amazingly remained close to many classmates from each school. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

While growing up in Superior, Randey spent much of his time with his cousins wreaking havoc in each other's homes, around the neighborhood, and even in Sunday school at Hope Congregational Church, where they [the extended family] all attended each week. Coming from a family of hunters, some of his fondest childhood memories were of hunting with his grandparents, uncles, and cousins.

Randey was quite entrepreneurial as a child.  He would proudly tell you how he used to catch and sell lobsters to the locals while living in Key West, FL, and about the time he was selling his homemade mix of strawberry and chocolate milk powder to his classmates - until he got caught.

Almost exactly 13 years ago, Randey went on his first date with Carolyn Juntune to Adventure Zone where Carolyn beat him at mini-golf.  Thankfully, he didn't hold that against her, and they married on July 12, 2014.

Randey worked with individuals with special needs for most of his adult life, most notably at Trilium Services, Duluth East High School, and for the last 15 years at Duluth Edison Charter School.  At Edison, he was working as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher, as well as teaching American Sign Language to 5th-8th grade students at both Raleigh and North Star Academies. He was so proud to share his language and Deaf culture with his students

In his free time, Randey enjoyed golf, impressing others with his culinary and grilling skills (no one could grill a steak like Randey), and crushing anyone he played any game with. He was the life of any party and liked to show off his dance moves, especially his signature move, "the worm."  Randey enjoyed spending time with family and friends through multiple golf trips and tournaments and looked forward each year to the annual John Hadley IV softball tournament.  But above all, he loved spending time with his daughter Briley, biking, playing games, and watching "their shows."

Randey was preceded in death by his mother, Joan; maternal grandparents, Floyd and Marianne Peters; and paternal grandparents Eugene "Geno" Rich and Jean Tansill.

He is survived by his loving and devastatingly gorgeous wife, Carolyn, daughter Briley, who truly was the apple of his eye; father, Randey (Donna) Rich Sr., sister, Heather (Jon) Seidel of Two Harbors, and much loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Randey was a person who was full of life and his passing has already been felt by so many. He is and will be unbelievably missed.
