Obituary

Randy R. "Crash" Oaing, 64, of Superior, Wis., died Tues., January 21, 2014 with his family by his side in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minn.

He was born January 22, 1949 in Duluth to Margaret "Marge" (Lindeborg) and Helge Oaing.

Randy enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in May 1967 and served until June 1971, doing two tours in Vietnam from 1967 – 1969. He was a weapons specialist.

The medals he earned were the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, a Navy Unit Commendation, the presidential unit citation, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, a good conduct medal, a combat action ribbon, Republic Vietnam Military Unit Commendation Gallantry Cross, a rifle marksman Sharpshooter badge, and a pistol sharpshooter badge.

After Vietnam he returned home, joined the Lost Race Motorcycle Club, and held various jobs, bartending, and doing construction work. He drove truck for Rueben Johnson Construction for many years.

Crash loved keeping busy, doing odd jobs with his equipment and going to veterans meetings in Duluth. He loved NASCAR, hunting, his daily stops at Rapids (Charlie's) Riverside, and riding his Harley. He enjoyed spending time with his great-nephews, Ryan and Ryker. Crash was very special to them as they were to him. He loved his dog, Sammy.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Helge Oaing and Marge McGinnis; a brother, John; and an aunt, Alice.

He is survived by a nephew, Shawn (Amanda Johnson) Oaing of Hawthorne, Wis., great-nephews, Ryan and Ryker Oaing; two aunts, Ruth (Charlie) Howe of Deer River, Minn. and Laura Mae Lindeborg of Little Canada, Minn.; and many cousins and dear friends.

A time of visitation will be in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service on Friday, January 31st. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci, Rector of Cathedral of Christ The King will officiate.
