Raymond Edward Olson 86, of Superior died Saturday August 27, 2011 in Golden Living Center.
He was born June 21, 1925 in Gackle North Dakota to Anna (Lahti) and Clarence Olson. In 1937 his family moved to Wright Minn. during the great drought in North Dakota, and he graduated from Cromwell Minn. High School in 1942. After graduation he worked as an Electricians helper and also mechanics assistant for Cromwell Motors. Ray also sailed the Great Lakes for a brief time.
On September 13, 1943 Ray was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Guam. He was honorably discharged June 5, 1946 at Great Lakes Naval Training center.
Upon returning to the States, Ray attended Northwestern Vocational Institute completing Radio, Communication and Electronics courses. Ray worked for a short time for Western Electric as a relay inspector. He also worked for a Steel plant. He then worked for a co-op warehouse which later became Midland Co-op in Fridley Minn. In 1968 Ray was hired by Twin Ports Grocery in Superior as a warehouse man working multiple positions. Ray and his wife Alice retired from T.P.G in 1986.
Ray was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church, the Teamster Union #346 and the Teamster retiree club, and was a life member V.F.W.
Ray enjoyed rummage sales and watching T.V. and surfing the channels with his favorite toy the remote which will be going with him.
Raymond married Alice Hugdahl July 16, 1949 and had been married 62 years.
Ray is survived by his wife Alice; two sons, Kenneth (Mary Jane) Olson and Duane (Janeice Jacobson) Olson both of Superior; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marvel Maki-Mattila of Floodwood, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eugene; a brother, Charles Leroy Olson; a sister, Florence Irene Johnson; and a grandchild, Renny.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday Sept. 1, at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Fr Ronald Olson as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435
Pallbearers will be Jerry Carlson, Brian Fogelberg, Brian Hugdahl, Casey Hugdahl, Marvin Hugdahl and Randy Stewart.
