Raymond D. Sundet, 84, of Superior, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his residence.
He was born July 29, 1926 in Superior, son of Olaf and Gunver (Olson) Sundet.
His childhood years were spent in Wentworth, where he attended Wentworth schools and graduated from Superior Central High School in 1944.
On September 8, 1947 in Superior, Raymond D. Sundet and Lorraine I. Scanlon were united in marriage.
Ray retired as a carman from the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, after over 40 years of service.
Some of his interests included golf, playing Scrabble, wintering in Arizona and serving his church. Moreover, he golfed on various leagues at Nemadji Golf Course and played in the Northland Traveling League. As a longtime member of Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, Ray served as head usher for over 25 years and numerous other positions within the church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sons, Jeffrey in 2003 and Ronald in 2007; brother, William; and sisters, Ann Behling and Agnes Peterson.
Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Lorraine; son, Richard (Mary) Sundet, Superior; daughters, Linda (Thomas) Perkovich, St. Paul, MN, and Jodi (Robert) Rochon, Superior; daughter-in-law, Margaret Sundet, Superior; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Lindberg, Raleigh, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Saturday,
July 30, 2011 at Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 W. Superior Street, Duluth, with Pastor Rolf Fure officiating.
The committal service will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, at a future date.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray's grandchildren.
Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
