He was born June 17, 1934 in Norristown, PA, son of Lloyd and Helen (Burrows) Heyser.

In 1956, David graduated from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in December of 1956 and served his country in Okinawa, Japan, until his honorable discharge in December, 1958. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. His graduation and ordination followed in 1963.

Reverend Heyser's first calling was to Lake Roosevelt Parish in the state of Washington from 1963 to 1968. In 1969 he was called to the Presbyterian Pioneer Parish in northern Wisconsin and served there for over 30 years. While with the Pioneer Parish, David and Marcia lived in Brule. David loved helping people and his volunteer work with the Salvation Army bell ringers, Union Gospel Mission, RSVP Bookworms Program, Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross, Brule Lions Club and the Hoop League, were some of his interests. He also enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles, walking his dog, traveling, reading classic literature, and cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies. One of his greatest loves was spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; great-granddaughter, Isabella Lynn Jaranson; and brother, Samuel Heyser.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Marcia; daughters, Kirsten (Doug) Standen, South Range, WI, and Tamra (Greg) Bingham, Leavenworth, WA; grandchildren, Rachael (Chris) Jaranson, Bemidji, MN and Kyle Standen, Duluth; brother, James (Madeleine) Heyser, Albuquerque, NM; and nieces, Pamela (Art) Spearing and Barbara (Richard) Moyer, both of Pennsylvania.
