Rich
Thompson
October 8, 1948 – October 29, 2019
Rich Thompson, 71, of Foxboro, WI, died peacefully at home on October 29, 2019, surrounded by family after fighting lung cancer.
He was born on October 8, 1948, to Clem and Viola Thompson. Rich married Sally Greely on June 20, 1970, and they were blessed with two sons.
Rich worked for US Steel until its closing and then worked for Douglas County Highway Department for 32 years, retiring in 2003. He served on the Douglas County Board of Supervisors and on the Summit Town Board.
Rich is survived by his wife, Sally; two sons, Dr. Matt (Heather) Thompson of Rochester, MN, and Kyle (Sarah) Thompson of Foxboro; four grandchildren, Jordan, Kaiden, Zacharie, and Kennedy; two sisters, Cathy (Dick) Holm of Maple Grove, MN, and Mary (Bob) Kuntz of Burnsville, MN; and sisters-in-law, Carole Thompson and Linda Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bob, Gene and Jack.
Rich spent special times with Matt at Brewer's games and taking "shopping" trips to the Grand Rapids flea market. Rich had a love for feeding people. He enjoyed cooking meals for retired folks at the town hall and having fish fries for friends at the house. He loved going to the hunting shack with Kyle and Harris and always made plenty of food to feed visitors and hunters going by. He always had a fondness for seniors in the neighborhood and would cook huge pots of soup, then deliver it to them, enabling him to visit with them also. He enjoyed fall and working on firewood, always having the woodshed full long before the heating season.
One would often see Rich in a camouflage shirt. Rich's family encourage people attending his memorial service to wear their camo shirts with blue jeans, if desired.
His visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 1, at St. Williams Catholic Church near Pattison Park. The Mass will follow at 12:00 Noon. Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Inurnment will be at the Summit Cemetery following the luncheon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Colborn, Pete Fornengo, Jim Harris, Larry Larson, Don Magdzas, Gary Nelson, Jack Nelson, Doug Pearson, Carl Peterson, Chuck Pleski, Dale Rochon, Rick Stromberg, Arvid Stromquist, and Gary Wanek.
