Obituary

Richard T. Altman, age 90, of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Twin Ports Health.

Born August 20, 1934, in Superior to Margaret (Wojciechowski) and Thomas Altman, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, service, and devotion to his family. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a member of the Seabees and was honored to participate in a recent Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.—an experience that brought him great pride.

On May 28, 1960, Richard married Linda Haugh in Chicago, Illinois. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring family bonds. A master plumber by trade, Richard was the owner and operator of Arrowhead Plumbing and Heating for many years. He also owned Dick's Laundromat and pursued a variety of business ventures throughout his life. He later retired as a pipeline inspector.

Richard had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the Namekagon River. He cherished time spent at the family cabin and farm, often surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An avid collector, Richard loved attending auctions and flea markets, always on the hunt for treasures. He will be fondly remembered for his legendary "stick stories" told around the campfire—stories that brought joy and laughter to generations.

Later in life, Richard found companionship and happiness traveling with Carolyn Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Linda, his siblings; his son-law, Randy Fitch and Dustin Stebbins.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Christine Fitch; Sharon (Dave) Manley; Susan (Richard) Backlund; and Ann (Dave) Altman. He was a proud grandfather to: Jennifer Stebbins, Holly (Chad) Izzard, Lindsey (Brandon) Thorsness, Rebecca (Tony) Male, Mike (Jill) Manley, Ashley (Joe) Dupay Austin Male, Brittany Male, Derek Backlund, Sarah (Jack) Sannes, Alyssa (Jate) Altman, and Aiden Eversole. His legacy also lives on through his great-grandchildren: Dylan, Zachary, Julia, Caiden, Cullen, Ava, Hudson, McKenna, Aden, Logan, Brody, Myles, Adalyn, Grace, Selene, and Porter,
