G. Smith, Jr.

Richard G. Smith, Jr., 95, a longtime resident of Superior, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
Richard was born May 2, 1930, in Superior to Elizabeth and Richard G. Smith, Sr.
Dick was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1949-53. He married Audrey Selvik on April 26, 1952, and they spent 62 years together. Dick graduated from Central High School in Superior, completed his undergraduate at U.W.-Stout and he received his master's degree from U.W.-Superior. Dick was a longtime teacher in the Superior District and was a driver's education teacher for 43 years.
Dick was passionate about the Green Bay Packers and hockey. He enjoyed watching all hockey and especially his son and grandchildren play his favorite sport.
He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church and a eucharistic minister. Dick was also a member of the Thomas F. Stein VFW Post #1091, Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435, Elks Lodge #403, and Moose Lodge #606. He was the Chaplin and active volunteer with the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Dick will be remembered for his dedication to his fellow military men and women.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey; his daughter, Jennifer Akers; son in-law, Robert Akers; great-grandson, Hudson Akers and his dog, Frenchy.
Survivors include his children, Lyndon (Vickie) Smith, Petra (Ben) Anderson, and Shawna (Chris) Fiore; his grandchildren, Josh Smith and his former wife, Crystal Edblom, Tim (Alánna) Smith, Kamrin Anderson, Jordan (Tatianna) Anderson, Zach Akers, and Spencer (Kayla) Akers; step-grandchildren, Gino Fiore, Jasmine (Tyler) Franzen, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 1510 New York Avenue, Superior, with Rev. Steven Burns officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 honor guard.
