Richard G. Komatz, Sr., 83, of Superior, died Monday, May 11, 2015 in Hospice care after a lengthy illness.
Richard was born in Wauwatosa, WI on Jan. 26, 1932 the son of George and Florence Komatz. He grew up in Phillips, WI.
Dick entered the Army at age 17 during the Korean War and served his country for 4 years.
He spent his adult years working for various companies including doing construction on the North Shore of Lake Superior. He retired from the Soo Line Railroad. Dick enjoyed fishing and was an avid deer hunter and Green Bay Packer fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kay ('Bud') Sutton; brother-in-law, Richard 'Dick' Norum; and special friend, Loretta Keep.
Richard is survived by 5 children, Pamela (Gordy) Nys of Superior, Peggy (Scott) Harmsen of Rochester, MN, Richard 'Butch' (Judy) Komatz, Jr., of Phillips WI, Patricia (David) Gramstrup of Superior, and Anton (Karen) Komatz of Newport News, VA; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, George 'Boots' (Nina) Komatz of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Carolyn Norum of Phillips, WI and Joyce (Jack) Larson of Phillips, WI; former wife and lifelong friend, Clara Komatz; and close friend, Joan Miller.
A celebration of Dick's Life will be held in Phillips, WI at a later date.
Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th and Ogden, is assisting the family with arrangements.
