Richard E. Leighty, 88, of Duluth, Minn., formerly a longtime Superior, Wis. resident died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. to Hazel (Johnson) and Edgar Leighty on February 15, 1925.
Richard received his Bachelor and Master degrees from the former Superior State Teachers College.
Richard served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed by the School District of Superior as a teacher for almost forty years. He also worked part time for the Evening Telegram in the advertising department.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; two sons, Stephen R. Leighty of Minneapolis, Minn. and Thomas A. Leighty of Hayward, Wis.; and a granddaughter, Erica Leighty of Hayward.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Verle in 1998.
His funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th & Ogden Ave., with Pastor Sarah Kerkes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
