Richard “Rick” F. Van Overmeiren, 74, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN.

Rick was born on November 8, 1951, in Superior, WI, to Beverly (Flesvig) and Peter Van Overmeiren.

He married Laura Remington on August 6, 1977, at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior. Rick was a U.S. Navy veteran and proud member of the Seabees from 1971–1975. He was also a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.

Rick was employed first as an ironworker and later with Lakehead Pipeline, now Enbridge, where he worked his way up to purchasing supervisor working for over 30 years before retiring in 2015.

Rick was an avid UMD Bulldogs hockey fan and enjoyed fishing, reading, and traveling. He loved family vacations and going on “old people” bus trips with Laura and friends. Rick and Laura traveled extensively on bus tours along both the East and West Coasts and throughout Canada, and they also enjoyed many cruises over the years.

He was known for having an impeccable yard and driveway and took great pride in keeping his home neat and tidy. Rick especially loved spending time with his grandsons, who lovingly knew him as “Poppie.”

Rick was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laura; his children, Amy (Scott) Andrews and Scott (Katie) Van Overmeiren; his grandsons, Zachary, Fletcher, and Charlie; his brother, Dale (Sue) Van Overmeiren; his sister, Mary (Jeff Lundberg) Pince; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Nikcevich, the Oncology staff, Infusion Center staff at the Duluth and Superior Essentia Health, and the staff at Solvay House for their extreme kindness and care during Rick's battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Friday, May 29, 2026, at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N. 34th St., Superior, WI, with Fr. Andrew Ricci officiating.

Entombment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
