Richard 'Dick' T. Melcher, 77, lifelong resident of Superior, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his family.

Richard was born in Superior on Feb. 22, 1947, the son of Melvin 'Dick' and Lillian (Nelson) Melcher. He graduated from Superior Central High School with the class of 1965.

Dick married Anne Hoff on March 7, 1970, and they would have celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Dick was a landlord for over 50 years, owning and managing many properties in Superior. He also worked for US Steel and Fraser Shipyard after high school. Dick enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of the Superior and Hawthorne Trap Clubs where he held the title of High Gun for many years. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Solon Springs which they owned for over 40 years. Dick also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and feeding his back yard critters. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and Bucks. Dick also coached youth hockey for a time. He had a big heart and always took care of family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick is survived by his wife, Anne; sons, Richard (Crystal Glanville) Melcher of Superior and John (Stacy) Melcher of South Range; grandchildren, Devin and Maegan Melcher, River and Micah Melcher, and step granddaughter Stephanie Peacock; 2 great grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara White of Iron River.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 9th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2316 E 4th St., with Very Rev. James F. Tobolski as celebrant.

Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
