Obituary

Richmond G. Banks, 97, of Superior, died Thursday, October 24, 2019 at New Perspective Senior Living.

He was born in Bennett, WI to Clara and Louis Banks on March 17, 1922. Rich was a special gentleman and was well loved. He cared about family, friends, and nature. He was a do what you have to do person, finish what you start, and give others the chance to follow whatever path they choose.

He graduated from Superior State College in 1942. He was then principal and teacher at Hawthorne Grade School. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant on the Supply Ship Polaris. After his discharge, he taught English at Bethany College in West Virginia. It was there he met and married his wife, Louise Miller.

They moved to Minneapolis and he attended classes and was a part time instructor at the U of MN. He left after attaining a master's degree and Doctorate. He then worked as a counselor and Guidance Director in High Schools for 32 years, mostly in Southern WI.

In 1980 he retired to Dads Lake in Eagle River. He and his wife celebrated 53 years of marriage until her death in 2000.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beatrice Berwald; and brothers, Dallas, Marv, Ray and Lowell Banks.

He is survived by his sisters, Marvel (Ray) Swanson of Solon Springs, and Eva Wermter of Superior; sister-in-law, Darnell Banks; many nieces, nephews and friends, especially his friends from Dads Lake who he called the worlds best neighbors.
