Obituary

Robert L. Bennett, Jr., 59 of Superior, died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Bob was born in superior on Feb. 5, 1955 the son of Robert and Dolores Bennett, Sr.

He graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1973.

He served his country during Vietnam in the Navy from 1973 to 1976. During his enlistment, he served aboard the USS Saginaw and received letters of commendation for his service.

Bob married the former Cindy Peterson on June 30, 1979 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church and they celebrated 35 years of marriage.

He was a sports Fanatic. In high school he played football, baseball, basketball and he wrestled. During his time in the Navy he also boxed. He played softball for many years in local leagues. Bob also coached Pony League Football and Little League Baseball. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia.

Bob loved to engage in conversation and express his opinions.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; mother and father-in-law, Betty and James Peterson; and a niece, Stephanie Zaharik.

Bob is survived by his wife, Cindy; sons, Robert L. Bennett, III, Anthony Bennett and Tyler Bennett all of Superior; grandchildren, Kayla, Lilly Anna, Jayden and Akaiya; his mother, Dolores; sisters, Kathy Woodhull and Patty (Jim) Cahill; sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Gord) Zaharik, Debbie (Dave) Christensen, Vicky Peterson and Jackie (Fred) Trettin; brother-in-law Jim (Terri) Peterson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, an aunt and many good friends.

His memorial mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci as celebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
