Robert John "Bob" Fulkerson, 92, of Superior, Wis. passed away Tues., Jan. 12, 2010 at the Golden Living Center.
He was born in Mora, Minn. on Aug. 23, 1917, the fourth child of eleven to LaRue and Grace Fulkerson.
In 1936 he married his wonderful wife, the former Margaret Schultz. They celebrated 56 years of marriage prior to her death in 1991. He enjoyed hunting and took great pride in his employment, but foremost in his life was his family.
Bob began his lifelong career as a newspaper printer in his early teens. His first printing job was in Mora, Minn., and he later worked for newspapers in New Richmond, Wis., Osceola, Wis. and Centuria, Wis. Then while residing in Frederic, Wis. he worked for the Inter County Leader. In 1955 the family moved to Superior and he found employment for over thirty years with the Evening Telegram.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas in 1989; his parents; and sisters, Genevieve Hawkinson, Florence Hanson and Ramona Christianson.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Marlys Spencer of Frederic and Kathryn Williams of Superior; grandchildren, Charvey (Joan) Spencer, Patrick Spencer, Keri (Dan) Nelson, Bob (Traci) DeMeyer; great-grandchildren, Amanda Spencer, Ross (Ashley) Spencer, and Justin Spencer, and Abbie, Lanie and Sydnie DeMeyer; brothers and sisters, Wayne (Gwen) Fulkerson, Alma McCoy, Shirley (Bud) Locher, Dale (Della) Fulkerson, Jim (Lori) Fulkerson, Madrene (Bernie) Peterson, Pete (Sharon) Fulkerson; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob's family extends a "special thank you" to the staff of the Golden Living Center for the wonderful family centered care that he was provided. The entire staff's efforts made a huge difference providing him and his family comfort, security and meaning during the last two and a half years of his life.
Visitation will be in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., on Fri., Jan. 15th beginning at 11:00 a.m. and continuing until the Celebration of His Life at Noon. Committal prayers will be said at 2:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery.
