Bob had a real passion for gardening and maintained a "backyard" greenhouse for several years. He grew a good variety of annual flowers to decorate his home and yard. The southern windows of his garage were ornate in the chill of winter with the colorful geraniums he wintered over the spring cuttings.
Bob loved to pick berries, especially blueberries, and he learned the art of making wine out of some of those berries. He also made chokecherry, strawberry, onion, beet, rhubarb, tart cherry, apple, grape, tomato, and several combinations of fruit wines. He gladly donated cases of wine for charitable fundraisers.
