Robert M. 'Zimm' Zimmerman, 80, of Superior went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 17, 2025, at Solvay Hospice house.
Robert was born on June 18, 1944, in Clearfield, PA the son of Robert H. and Elizabeth (Miller) Zimmerman. He was a talented athlete in wresting, football and track. He was recruited by UWS to wrestle and play football. As a heavyweight wrestler he finished 3rd in the Nation in 1963. He was twice inducted into the UWS Hall of Fame. Once as a member of the 1963 wrestling team and again as a member of the 1962 football team. It was at UWS that he met the love of his life, Diane. He married Diane on June 24, 1967, and they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Zimm worked for Fraser Shipyard before owning and operating the Four Corners Store with Diane. He later worked in custodial services at WITC (Northwood Tech) for 20 years.
He was a member of the Duluth Bible Church, Past District Governor of Lions International, and Town Board Supervisor for the Town of Superior.
Zimm was a devoted husband and father who always loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading and he was a Mr. Fix it and a crafty engineer especially as it pertained to their large garden. He enjoyed planning, preparing and harvesting their prolific garden. Most of all he loved eating the fruits of their labor all year round.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends and will be forever remembered for his wit, humor, and "words of wisdom".
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Zimm is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Robert (Terri) Zimmerman of Superior; daughter, Angela McCoy of Casper, WY; five grandchildren, Morgan (Laura) Sannes, Jack (Sarah) Sannes, and Colton, Joshua, and Max McCoy; great grandchildren, Selene, Porter, and one on the way; brother, James (Janice) Zimmerman of Clearfield, PA; sister, Kathleen Edler of Canonsburg, PA; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A private family burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
A Celebration of Zimm's life will be held Saturday February 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Duluth Bible Church,201 West Andrew St. Duluth, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Duluth Bible Church.
Zimm trusted in Jesus Christ alone for his eternal salvation and is with the Lord in heaven.
