Obituary

Robert C. Miller, 83, of Maple, Wisconsin, a longtime area resident passed away in the Brule River State Forest in Cloverland, Wisconsin, after he went missing on Friday, September 18, 2026. Following an extensive search by multiple agencies and volunteers, he was located on Monday, October 12, 2026. His family has the deepest thanks to everyone involved.

Rob was born August 24, 1943, to Robert and Erma (Bartz) Miller in Oak Park, Illinois and grew up at Elk Creek Lake in Eau Claire, Wisconsin with his younger siblings James “Jim” and Cynthia “Cindy.”

Rob attended college at UW Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. He then worked as a wood shop teacher at East Junior High in Superior, Wisconsin for many years. Rob met Patricia DeMoe and they married in 1961. They had three daughters together, Dawn, Robin, and Colleen whom they raised in Brule, Wisconsin. Rob and Pat owned the Lion’s Den in Brule, Wisconsin for several years. He began building his home in Maple, Wisconsin in 1983, with most of the building, woodwork and cabinetry done by Rob himself.

Rob later met Donna Clemmer and they married on August 22, 1992. They remained in a loving marriage until Donna’s passing in 2025. They enjoyed spending time in Washburn, fishing, and taking trips to Door County.

Rob was a true outdoorsman. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, particularly on the Brule River and Lake Superior. He was known by many for his kindness and willingness to share any tips and tricks to a fellow fisherman, and he never hesitated to give one of his handmade “Spoon Feeder” lures away.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Lahti-Clemmer) Miller; first wife, Patricia (DeMoe-Miller) Wright; parents, Robert, and Erma Miller; daughters, Dawn (Miller) Alexson, Robin (Miller) Harvey, and Colleen Miller; his brother, Jim Miller; brother in-law, Richard Landraint, and son in-law, Mike Harvey.

Rob is survived by his sister, Cindy Landraint (Richard); grandchildren, Leah (Jason) Klobucher, Alayna (Justin) Beacom, Mitch Ogren (Emily Masterson), Taylore Ogren (Matt Bailey), Claire Harvey (Tad Hovet), Lydia Harvey, Sydney Harvey (Ethan Cristilly) and Aubree Miller (Samuel Hutton); great-grandchildren, Campbell, Elliot and Macyn Klobucher, Reed and Luke Beacom, Nova, Vice and Lexington Hovet, Breckin Bailey and Logan Cristilly; his stepchildren, Kirk (Jill) Clemmer, Robin (Richard) Moses, and Shawn Clemmer; step grandchildren, Neil (Dawn) Clemmer, Amanda (Sean) Heller, Tarl (Allison) Kaio, Shane Kaio, and Benjamin (Kerry) Clemmer; his step great grandchildren, Jenna Novak (Jenna Green), Emily Valliancourt, Juniper and Albert Heller, and Caleb Kaio; countless nieces, nephews, and extended family along with all of his fellow fisherman and former students.

The family has the deepest thanks for the extensive search to locate Rob. Ground searchers and technology that included drones, fixed wing aircraft, sonar, ROV, underwater cameras, and thermal imaging were implemented.

Hundreds of searchers and volunteers from various agencies and entities participated in daily searches, including from: Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Douglas County Emergency Management, Douglas County Forestry, Civil Air Patrol, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and K9 Teams, Mid-MN K9 Team, Sawyer County K9 Team, Mayo Ambulance, and volunteer fire fighters from the following townships: Amnicon, Brule, Cloverland, Hawthorne, Highland, Lake Nebagamon, Lakeside, Maple, Oakland, Parkland, and Poplar. The Town of Cloverland provided their town hall as a command post and numerous citizens provided food, water, and information.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Mission Covenant Church, 5161 County Rd P, Poplar WI, with Pastor James Walsh as officiant. There will be a reception to follow at the Kro Bar in Brule, Wisconsin.
